Belmond Independent > News > Bus driver shortage; principal gets big pay raise
Willie was arrested and slapped with 23 criminal charges, including driving under the influence, operating a commercial vehicle in possession of alcohol, consuming alcohol in the passenger area of a LenoxBus vehicle, driving a commercial vehicle without an appropriate medical certificate, negligent and reckless driving, and driving off the highway. Though Willie was the only person on the bus at the time, that was set to change as she was headed to a private school in Montgomery County, Md. to transport a group of students to Washington D.C. for a field trip. The owner of the bus, a company called Mr. Tims Bus Rides out of Owings Mills, Md., was notified of the incident and arrived to take the bus. Willie was taken to jail and later released to a sober driver, according to news reports. It is unclear how Willie got the job as a bus driver especially one given the task of driving kids. <br>visit http://news.yahoo.com/bus-driver-criminal-record-arrested-dui-way-pick-164640195.html
Nelson, who has complained about the rate several times in the past year, said B-Ks current rate is the lowest in the conference. Mileage will only be reimbursed when an employee does not have a school vehicle available. Currently, the federal government reimburses 57.5 cents per mile while Wright County set the 2015 rate at 48 cents. The board also approved having Struxture Architects start the preliminary work on a safe room. Nelson said the district needs a safe room that can hold up to 800 students and 100 adults. If the project is approved by FEMA, up to 60 percent of the cost would be covered by federal funds. In other business, the board: --heard that medical insurance premiums will increase 1.84 percent next year; --approved hiring Danielle Daniels and LeEllen Parker as aides, Tony Andrews as junior high assistant wrestling coach, and Elijah Kinseth as assistant baseball coach; --accepted the resignation of Dan Gabrielson as junior high volleyball coach; --heard that the new special education bus should arrive by the end of the month and the three new leased buses should arrive by mid-March; --approved leasing four new copiers. <br>visit http://belmondnews.com/articles/2015/02/28/news/doc54ecf66b2d02d866879037.txt
Camera system was out of commission on bus that hit pedestrian | News-Gazette.com
"That is very frustrating to me," Gnadt said. The injured pedestrian, 59-year-old Patricia Marxmiller of Mahomet, was struck by the MTD bus at the corner of Logan and Walnut Wednesday afternoon. She had been in critical condition at Carle Foundation Hospital as of Thursday, but the hospital stopped providing condition updates about her Friday. Marxmiller has worked for Christie Clinic about 26 years, most recently as scheduling coordinator for the clinic's oral surgery department, according to information on the clinic's website confirmed by a clinic spokeswoman. Christie Clinic declined to provide additional information about Marxmiller, but a profile of her on Christie's website describes her as an Illini fan, the mother of two daughters and a grandmother. <br>visit http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2015-02-28/camera-system-was-out-commission-bus-hit-pedestrian.html
